Are you searching for effective anxiety treatment in Chicago, IL that truly makes a difference?
At SunCloud Health’s Chicago (Lincoln Park) center, we specialize in helping you overcome anxiety and reclaim a life of peace and purpose.
Our comprehensive programs combine therapy, support, and real-world strategies to turn anxiety from a crippling burden into a manageable condition you can conquer. You don’t have to struggle alone – we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
From Struggle to Strength: Chicago Success Stories
One of the most inspiring parts of SunCloud Health is seeing our patients go from feeling overwhelmed to living with confidence.
For example, a recent SunCloud Chicago patient shared how decades of severe anxiety and depression had kept them on a “merry go round of medication” with little relief – until they came to SunCloud. “When I came to see Dr. Kim… she actually spent countless hours… properly diagnosing me for the first time… The experience at SunCloud helped me see that, with ongoing support, I can actually live a normal and stable life.” This patient, once convinced things would never improve, finally found stability and hope through our program.
Another former patient describes SunCloud Health as “the best decision of my life.” After about 3½ months of outpatient care at our Chicago center, “I learned skills for coping, self-compassion, emotional regulation, and self-care… The treatment I received created a foundation for me that I never had before.” This individual overcame challenges that once felt impossible and continues to grow with everything learned here. “It isn’t easy but it’s beyond worth it… It is a magical place and I am forever grateful for my experience here!”
These real success stories show that with the right help, anxiety can be overcome. Many of our Chicago patients who once felt hopeless are now thriving – working jobs they love, rebuilding relationships, and finally feeling like themselves again.
Why Our Chicago, Illinois Treatment Center Gets Results
SunCloud Health Chicago is not your ordinary anxiety clinic – and our outcomes prove it. We use a unique integrated treatment model developed by our co-founder, Dr. Kimberly Dennis, a nationally recognized psychiatrist.
This means we don’t just treat surface symptoms; we dig deeper to heal all aspects of what you’re facing, including any underlying trauma or co-occurring disorders like depression or addiction.
Dr. Kim Dennis has pioneered this integrative approach, which plays a vital role in successfully treating patients with complex anxiety cases and related issues. It’s one big reason why even people who have been “in and out of treatment several times with little success” elsewhere often achieve a more effective recovery experience at SunCloud Health.
What makes our Chicago center so effective?
We personalize every treatment plan to the individual. Our team takes the time to truly understand you – your history, triggers, lifestyle, and goals – so we can tailor care that fits you. You’ll be treated as a partner in your recovery, not a number on a chart. We also measure our success in real terms: improved moods, reduced panic attacks, better sleep, returning to work or school, and happier relationships.
SunCloud Health has become “one of the nation’s most trusted names” in treating anxiety and related conditions because we combine evidence-based therapies, a compassionate atmosphere, and an unwavering commitment to your long-term wellness. When you come to our Chicago treatment center, you can trust that you’re getting care that truly works – and we have the success stories and data to back it up.
A Proven Approach to Healing Anxiety
- Comprehensive Evaluation & Personalized Plan: Healing begins with understanding. We start by assessing you as a whole person – identifying the type of anxiety disorder you have and any other issues that may be contributing (for example, past trauma, substance use, or health concerns). Because no two people with anxiety are exactly alike, our team crafts a personalized care plan just for you. You’ll collaborate with us on your goals and preferences, ensuring you feel comfortable and involved from day one.
- Therapy that Works: The cornerstone of anxiety treatment is psychotherapy (talk therapy). We often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), one of the most effective form of therapy for anxiety disorders. In CBT, you’ll learn specific skills to manage anxious thoughts and gradually face the situations that trigger your anxiety. We also leverage Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), an evidence-based approach to helping those with anxiety gain coping skills for handling uncertainty.by helping you confront fears in a safe, controlled manner. Over time, exposures help desensitize your anxiety triggers – you build confidence as you realize you can handle what once felt overwhelming. Our therapists are also trained in other modalities (like mindfulness-based therapy or Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and will choose the methods that best suit you.
- Beyond Talk – Holistic Techniques: What makes SunCloud’s approach special is that we go beyond just talk therapy and pills. Depending on your needs, your plan may also include:
- Education & Skill-Building: We teach you how anxiety affects your body, mind, and spirit, so you can recognize symptoms and respond in healthy ways.
- Group Therapy: You’ll practice coping skills alongside others in group sessions, building healthy interpersonal skills and realizing you’re not alone in what you feel. Many patients find strength and encouragement by connecting with peers who understand.
- Family Therapy: With your permission, we involve your loved ones through family therapy, so they can support you and learn how to help (or at least better understand what you’re going through). Healing is often a team effort, and having family on board can make a huge difference.
- Continuous Support: Even outside formal therapy, we offer ongoing support groups. These provide a safe space to share updates, discuss challenges, and stay motivated throughout your recovery.
- Mind-Body Practices: Since anxiety impacts both mind and body, we incorporate relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation, deep breathing exercises, and other mindfulness practices. These holistic tools help calm your nervous system, reduce stress, and build resilience. Over time, you’ll gain a toolbox of strategies – from grounding techniques to journaling – to center yourself whenever anxiety starts to rise.
- Thoughtful Use of Medication: As a medically-supervised center, we can prescribe anti-anxiety or antidepressant medications when appropriate – but medication is never our sole focus. If meds are needed, our psychiatric providers (including board-certified psychiatrists) will work closely with you to find the right type and dose. Common options might include SSRIs or other antidepressants that help with anxiety, or a medication called buspirone for chronic anxiety. The bottom line: medication is used as a tool, not a crutch. Our goal is to help you function better while you engage in therapy – and many patients are able to reduce or even eliminate anxiety medications over time as their coping skills grow.
What You Can Expect from Anxiety Treatment at Our Chicago Location
Walking into SunCloud Health Chicago, you’ll notice right away that it doesn’t feel like a sterile clinic. Our center is warm and welcoming – more like a calming wellness space than a doctor’s office. From day one of your anxiety treatment, you can expect to be greeted by friendly, understanding staff who genuinely care about you. We know how hard it is to take that first step, so we do everything we can to make you feel comfortable and safe.
Personalized Assessment: In your first appointment(s), we’ll conduct a thorough intake assessment to get to know you. This is a relaxed, one-on-one conversation with a compassionate clinician who will ask about your experiences, symptoms, and goals. (This initial evaluation usually lasts around 1.5 hours and is done by a licensed therapist.) You’ll never feel rushed – we take the time to listen. In fact, even our initial phone consultations can last up to an hour if needed, because we want to answer all your questions and understand your needs fully. By the end of this assessment, our team will share with you a recommended treatment plan tailored to your situation.
Levels of Care: SunCloud Health Chicago offers different program intensities to match how severe your anxiety is and what your life needs are. At our Lincoln Park location, we provide both a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for anxiety and related conditions.
- In PHP, you would attend treatment 5 days a week, for about 6 hours each day (typically Monday through Friday). Think of PHP as a daytime intensive therapy program – you do not stay overnight (you go home each evening), but your days are filled with structured therapeutic activities, groups, and counseling. This level is great if you need significant support and want to really focus on recovery in a short period of time, without a residential stay.
- In IOP, you attend therapy 3–5 days per week for roughly 3–5 hours per day. IOP is a bit more flexible – sessions might be in the mornings or evenings, allowing you to continue with some daily responsibilities like work, school, or family care. It provides intensive treatment but with a lighter schedule than PHP.
Need more support than outpatient?
For those who require a higher level of care, we also offer Residential Treatment at our Northbrook, IL facility, located just 50 minutes from our Chicago center. This immersive program provides 24/7 care in a peaceful, homelike environment – ideal for individuals with severe anxiety or co-occurring conditions who would benefit from round-the-clock structure and support. The transition from residential to outpatient care can be seamless within the SunCloud network, ensuring true continuity of care throughout your recovery journey.
No matter where you start, we’ll help you find the level of care that’s right for you – and adjust as needed along the way.
During your intake, we’ll recommend which level of care makes the most sense for you. Some patients might start in PHP if their anxiety is severe, then “step down” to IOP as they improve. Others might begin at IOP if they’re dealing with moderate anxiety or have scheduling constraints. We also offer a Virtual IOP option for adults, meaning you could attend intensive therapy sessions online from the comfort of home – a convenient choice if commuting is a challenge or if you feel more at ease starting treatment remotely.
Therapeutic Activities: No matter which program you’re in, your treatment will involve a mix of individual therapy, group therapy, educational workshops, and holistic activities. A typical day in our anxiety treatment program might include: an individual session with your therapist to dive into personal issues; a skills group where you and peers practice techniques to manage panic or anxious thoughts; a mindfulness meditation or yoga break to center yourself; and perhaps a family session (in person or via Zoom) to work on communication and support at home. You’ll have breaks and downtime to reflect or socialize in our common areas. Expect to be engaged and supported throughout the day. Our staff will check in with you often – you’re never just left to “figure it out” on your own.
Supportive Environment: One of the best things our patients say about SunCloud Chicago is the sense of community. You’ll be joining a supportive group of peers who are also working to overcome anxiety. Many friendships formed in our groups continue long after treatment, becoming part of each person’s ongoing support network. The atmosphere at our center is one of acceptance, understanding, and zero judgment – we’ve all been through our own struggles, and you’ll feel that empathy everywhere, from the front desk to the therapy rooms. Our Chicago facility itself is designed to reduce stress: the decor is soothing, the rooms are bright and private, and we often have calming elements like soft lighting, comfortable chairs, and even mindful coloring books or fidget items available if they help you feel at ease.
Flexibility and Continuity: Because our anxiety treatment is on an outpatient basis, you can live at home while you heal. This means you keep sleeping in your own bed, seeing your family, and even continuing with work or school if you’re able – all with our support. Many people find this hugely beneficial: outpatient care is flexible, allowing you to maintain familiar routines and practice your new coping skills in real-life settings. It’s also generally more affordable than inpatient rehab and is often covered by insurance (more on that later).
And if you ever feel you need a higher level of care — or, conversely, if you’re ready to step down — SunCloud’s full continuum means we can adjust your program without interrupting your progress. That includes seamless transitions into or out of our Residential Treatment Program in Northbrook, Illinois, just 50 minutes from our Chicago center, giving you the support you need every step of the way.
Expect to be Empowered: Perhaps most importantly, you can expect that through your journey at SunCloud Chicago, you will gradually move from feeling fearful and limited to feeling empowered and hopeful. Our goal is not just symptom reduction during treatment, but to equip you with lifelong skills and insights. You’ll learn how to identify early signs of anxiety and respond in healthy ways. You’ll practice communication skills to express your needs and boundaries. You’ll likely discover new passions or rekindle old hobbies as anxiety loosens its grip on your day-to-day life. By the end of your program, you should feel a significant positive shift – many of our graduates say they “finally feel like themselves again,” or even like a new and stronger version of themselves.
In summary, what you can expect at SunCloud Health Chicago is transformational anxiety care delivered by people who genuinely care about your well-being. It won’t always be easy – facing fears never is – but you will always have a team by your side and a plan in place. We strive to make sure every patient feels heard, safe, and supported from the moment they walk in our door. When you commit to getting better, we commit to you 100%.
How It Works: A Step-by-Step Guide to Starting Anxiety Treatment
Getting started with anxiety treatment at SunCloud Health Chicago is straightforward and welcoming. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what the process typically looks like:
Step 1: Reach Out for a Free Consultation
When you’re ready, simply call us at (224) 355-2444 or send a quick message through our website. You’ll connect with a compassionate intake professional who truly understands what you’re going through. During this initial call, we’ll answer any pressing questions you have and gather some basic information about what you’re dealing with. There’s no commitment required – we’re here to help you understand your options. This call can be as brief or as detailed as you need; we’re never in a rush because we know it takes courage to reach out, and you deserve our full attention.
Step 2: Initial Assessment Appointment
After the first call, if you’re interested in moving forward, we’ll schedule a comprehensive intake assessment. This is usually an in-person meeting at our Chicago Lincoln Park office (or via secure video call if you prefer). During this assessment, a licensed therapist will conduct a thorough bio-psycho-social evaluation – basically, we’ll talk in depth about your anxiety symptoms, medical history, mental health history, and life circumstances. We may have you fill out some questionnaires or surveys about your anxiety. This meeting typically takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. The goal is to pinpoint what’s really going on and determine if our program is the right fit to help you. We encourage you to be completely honest – remember, there’s no judgment here. The more we understand, the better we can help. (If you’re currently hospitalized or unable to meet in person, we can arrange to do this intake by phone or telehealth as a special accommodation.)
Step 3: Personalized Treatment Recommendation
After your intake assessment, our clinical team will review everything we’ve learned about you. We then meet with you (often the same day or within a couple days) to discuss our recommendations. We’ll explain whether we feel SunCloud Health’s anxiety program is well-suited to your needs. Honesty is crucial to us – in fact, unlike many treatment centers, we do not automatically admit everyone who comes through our door without ensuring it’s truly a good match. SunCloud Health admits less than 50% of people who complete an intake, because we only want to enroll those we sincerely believe we can help. If we think you’d be better served by another type of program or service, we will tell you so and help connect you with the right resources (even if that means referring you elsewhere). However, if our Chicago program is a good fit for you – as it is for many – we will walk you through a proposed treatment plan tailored for you. This includes what level of care (PHP vs. IOP) we recommend, what your schedule might look like, therapy modalities we’ll use, and any other specifics. We invite you to ask questions and be an active participant in designing your plan.
Step 4: Admission & First Day
Once you agree on a plan, we’ll handle the paperwork to get you officially admitted. Our team will check your insurance benefits for you and confirm any costs up front. We’ll schedule your start date – sometimes as soon as the next day if you’re eager to begin and we have space. On your first day of treatment, expect a warm welcome! You’ll meet your primary therapist and other care team members. You might get a tour of the facility, an orientation to the program rules/schedule, and we’ll address any of your last-minute nerves. We pair new patients with “peer buddies” whenever possible – someone who’s been in the program a little longer and can show you the ropes so you feel at home. By the end of day one, you’ll likely have participated in your first group session and maybe an individual check-in. It’s normal to feel anxious about starting (after all, you have anxiety!), but our patients often tell us that their fears dissipated quickly once they met everyone and saw how supportive the environment is.
Step 5: Active Treatment Phase
Now the real work – and real healing – begins. You’ll attend the program on the agreed schedule, typically multiple days per week in either PHP or IOP, depending on what level of care fits your needs. During this phase, you’ll dive into individual therapy, group sessions, skills-building, and other therapeutic activities designed to help you gain insight, develop coping strategies, and gradually reduce your anxiety symptoms.
And if at any point during treatment it becomes clear that you would benefit from even more support than outpatient care can offer, we can help you transition into our Residential Treatment Program in Northbrook, IL – just under an hour away. This 24/7 immersive care environment is ideal for those needing a higher level of structure and supervision. Once stabilized, you can step back down into PHP or IOP at our Chicago center, maintaining continuity of care with the same trusted team guiding your journey.
Step 6: Ongoing Evaluation and Adjustments
Throughout your treatment, we continuously evaluate how things are going. You’ll have regular one-on-one meetings with your therapist to discuss what’s working or not. We might adjust your medication if one was prescribed, add a focused session on a particular phobia that’s come up, or extend your time in PHP before stepping down to IOP if you need a little more intensive help.
And if at any point you and your care team feel you’d benefit from a higher level of support than outpatient care can provide, we can help you transition seamlessly into our Residential Treatment Program located in Northbrook, IL – just about 50 minutes from our Chicago center. There, you’ll receive round-the-clock care in a safe, structured setting designed for deep healing. Once ready, you can step back down into PHP or IOP, ensuring continuity and consistency every step of the way.
Nothing in our program is one-size-fits-all; it’s an evolving process responsive to you. We also invite feedback – if something isn’t resonating or you have a request (say, to include a family session or address a specific concern), tell us! We’re here to make this experience as effective as possible for you.
Step 7: Transition & Aftercare Planning
As you make progress, there will come a point when you’re ready to “graduate” from the structured program. Long before that day, we’ll work together on an aftercare plan to ensure you feel supported post-treatment. This may involve scheduling ongoing weekly therapy (either with a SunCloud outpatient therapist or another provider), connecting you with one of our alumni support groups, and giving you a personalized set of coping tools and contacts for any help you might need. Our Chicago location, being part of SunCloud’s broader network, has multiple levels of outpatient care available – so some patients choose to continue in a lower-intensity weekly group, or see a SunCloud psychiatrist for medication follow-ups. We won’t just wave goodbye; we make sure you have a solid plan for maintaining your hard-won progress.
By following these steps, we’ve made starting anxiety treatment as seamless and supportive as possible. From the first hello on the phone, to your first day in program, to the day you’re ready to step into life beyond treatment, SunCloud Health will guide you with compassion and expertise. Every big journey begins with a single step. If you’re reading this, you’ve already taken the first one by seeking help – we encourage you to take the next step and reach out. We’ll be here ready to help you start your path from anxiety to wellness.
Investing in Your Health: The Real Cost of Untreated Anxiety
When considering anxiety treatment, it’s natural to think about the time, effort, and money involved. But have you thought about the cost of NOT getting treatment? Untreated anxiety can take a serious toll on your life – emotionally, physically, and even financially.
Personal and Emotional Costs: Anxiety isn’t “just in your head.” Chronic anxiety often leads to other problems like depression, substance abuse (some people start drinking or using medications to self-medicate their anxiety), and social isolation. Relationships can suffer – maybe you’re canceling plans with friends due to panic attacks or avoiding intimacy with your partner because of constant worry. You might miss out on promotions at work or drop out of classes because anxiety is crippling your performance. Over time, unaddressed anxiety can erode your self-esteem and rob you of life’s joys. These are real losses.
Physical Health Costs: The mind-body connection means anxiety can impact your physical health too. High stress levels are linked to hypertension, heart issues, gastrointestinal problems (like ulcers or IBS), chronic headaches, and a weakened immune system. If you’re experiencing symptoms like constant fatigue, muscle tension, or insomnia, anxiety might be a root cause. Left untreated, these physical issues can land you with frequent doctor visits or medical bills – not to mention the discomfort of always feeling unwell. Some research even shows that people with anxiety utilize healthcare services more, as the constant worry can lead to more ER visits or tests (for instance, rushing to the ER thinking you’re having a heart attack when it was a panic attack).
Financial and Societal Costs: On a larger scale, anxiety disorders are actually the most costly mental health condition in the U.S. in terms of overall economic impact. Studies have found that anxiety disorders account for about 31.5% of the total mental health costs – an estimated $46.6 billion in one year (even higher today). How does anxiety get so expensive? It’s not just treatment costs; it’s also lost productivity, absenteeism, and reduced work performance. Employers lose billions annually due to employees’ untreated anxiety and depression. For the individual, this might show up as lost income from taking too many sick days or being unable to pursue career opportunities due to anxiety limitations.
Perhaps the saddest cost of untreated anxiety is the lost time. All those years (or even decades) that anxiety steals from someone – the missed experiences, travels not taken, relationships not formed, goals not pursued – these are things you can’t put a price tag on. Life is too short and precious to let anxiety run the show.
Treatment is an Investment: Yes, quality anxiety treatment is an investment of time and resources. But consider this: effective treatment can restore your ability to work, study, and engage fully in life, which often pays for itself over time. People who get help for their anxiety typically see improvements in productivity and overall functioning. Moreover, treating anxiety can prevent more serious (and costly) issues down the line, like severe depression or substance addiction. In other words, by addressing your anxiety now, you may save yourself from far greater expenses (and pain) in the future.
It’s also worth noting that anxiety treatment is highly effective and efficient. Modern interventions (like CBT and medication) have success rates that make them very cost-effective. Experts have pointed out that despite anxiety’s prevalence, it often goes “under-recognized and untreated even though treatment interventions have been shown to be effective and can be delivered in a cost-efficient manner.” In plain terms, we have the tools to successfully treat anxiety relatively quickly – so it’s wise to use them.
Your Well-Being is Priceless: At the end of the day, investing in your mental health is the best investment you can make. The returns are immeasurable: waking up without dread, experiencing genuine happiness and calm, pursuing your dreams without fear holding you back. Imagine the relief and freedom you’ll feel when anxiety is no longer controlling you. That outcome is worth everything. SunCloud Health is committed to making treatment accessible – we accept insurance (see below) and offer flexible programming – because we truly believe you are worth it. Don’t let untreated anxiety quietly drain away your quality of life. By investing in treatment now, you’re investing in a healthier, brighter future for yourself.
The Experts Behind Your Recovery: Meet Our Chicago Team
- Dr. Kimberly Dennis, MD, CEDS: Dr. Kim is our Chief Medical Officer, CEO, and co-founder of SunCloud Health. She’s a psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience treating complex mental health and substance use disorders. Dr. Kim is actually a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, staying at the forefront of psychiatric research and education. She has pioneered SunCloud’s integrated treatment model, and her vision of compassionate, whole-person care drives everything we do. Don’t be surprised if you see Dr. Kim in the hallways or even leading a group session – she’s very involved and approachable, often described as the “Dr. House of Psychiatry” by patients for her diagnostic brilliance (but with a much kinder bedside manner!).
- Dr. Nicole Bishop, Psy.D.: Dr. Bishop is a licensed clinical psychologist and our Chicago Clinical Director. She specializes in anxiety disorders and trauma, and she ensures that every therapist on our team delivers top-notch, individualized therapy. If you have a specific type of anxiety (like OCD or panic disorder), Dr. Bishop might pair you with a therapist who has particular expertise in that area. She’s also big on making sure you feel heard. Under her leadership, patient feedback is continuously integrated – so you truly feel like a partner in your treatment.
- Alexander Chevalier, MD: Dr. Chevalier is our Medical Director for Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. If you’re a teenager or young adult coming in for anxiety treatment, Dr. Chevalier may be involved in your care (or consult on it) to address developmental needs. He’s double board-certified and brings a wealth of knowledge on how anxiety impacts younger patients differently. Our Chicago location serves adolescents as well as adults, and we have specialists like Dr. Chevalier to tailor care to each age group.
- Melissa Rocchi, ATR, LCPC: Melissa is our Executive Director overseeing the Chicago (Lincoln Park) facility, as well as our Northbrook and Naperville locations. She’s both a licensed counselor and a registered art therapist – meaning she encourages creative therapies alongside traditional ones. Melissa makes sure the day-to-day operations of our Chicago center run smoothly. More importantly, she sets the tone for our culture: compassionate, family-like, and patient-centered. She often says, “We’re not just treating a diagnosis; we’re caring for a person.” You’ll feel that ethos in every interaction.
- Experienced Therapists & Counselors: Our clinical therapy team includes experts in cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, family systems, and more. They have titles like LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), LCPC (Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor), etc., but what matters to you is that they are skilled, empathetic, and dedicated. You’ll be matched with a primary therapist who will be your main confidant, and you’ll also work with several others via group sessions. This gives you a rich therapeutic experience with different perspectives. All our therapists receive ongoing training in the latest anxiety treatment techniques – we regularly host trainings and even Continuing Education events for professionals citywide (sometimes led by our own staff or Dr. Kim).
- Nurses and Wellness Staff: Anxiety can have physical components, so our nursing staff might check in on things like your sleep, appetite, or any medication side effects. We also have yoga and meditation instructors, as well as dietitians (since nutrition and anxiety are linked) who can offer guidance. It’s truly a multidisciplinary team rallying around you.
Picture a Brighter Future: What Life After Treatment Can Look Like
Take a moment to imagine your life freed from the weight of anxiety. What does that look like for you?
Maybe it’s waking up feeling rested and hopeful instead of dreading the day. Perhaps it’s confidently giving that presentation at work or enjoying a social gathering without your heart racing. It could be as simple as feeling present with your family – truly there in the moment, not lost in worry. At SunCloud Health, these visions of a brighter future aren’t just daydreams; they are real outcomes that we strive for every single day with our patients.
Life after anxiety treatment can be truly transformative. As you near the end of your program at our Chicago center, we’ll help you reflect on how far you’ve come and prepare you for the road ahead. Many of our alumni report experiencing dramatic positive changes in their lives:
- They return to activities they once avoided – whether that’s traveling on an airplane, driving on the highway, going to the movies, or attending a family reunion – and they enjoy themselves.
- They find themselves performing better at work or school because they can concentrate without intrusive worries. Some even achieve milestones like job promotions or completing a degree that anxiety had stalled.
- Socially, life often blossoms: clients start dating again, rekindle friendships, or simply feel comfortable being out and about exploring Chicago’s vibrant city life. One patient said she felt like she “got her city back,” no longer limited to the small “safe zones” she used to stick to.
- Perhaps most importantly, people talk about a renewed sense of inner peace and confidence. Those physical symptoms – the knotted stomach, sweaty palms, pounding heart – fade or become infrequent. Instead, there’s a calm center and the knowledge, “I have the tools to handle whatever comes.”
SunCloud Health ensures that life after treatment is supported, too. Remember, we consider recovery an ongoing journey, not a one-time event. As mentioned, we have aftercare resources such as weekly alumni meetings, group therapy you can continue attending, and the option to see our therapists or psychiatrists for maintenance sessions.
We are an outpatient and aftercare-friendly program, which means even after your formal treatment, “SunCloud Health is in an ideal position to support you for as long as you agree our services are useful to you.” You might stay connected through an outpatient group or periodic check-ins – whatever helps you feel confident on your own. We will work with you to create a long-term wellness plan that you can carry into your daily life, so that you continue to thrive.
Think of your time in treatment as laying a strong foundation. Going forward, you’ll always have that foundation to build upon. Of course, life will still have stressors – no one can eliminate stress entirely. The difference is that you will now have the resilience and skills to respond to challenges in a healthy way. A moment of anxiety here or there is normal, but it no longer controls you. You’ll know how to breathe through it, challenge the anxious thoughts, or reach out to a support person, and keep moving forward.
Many SunCloud alumni describe life after treatment with one word: freedom. Freedom to try new things, freedom to make choices based on what they want (not what anxiety tells them to avoid), freedom to be themselves. We’ve seen patients do incredible things after overcoming their anxiety – one went on to start her own business, another repaired a long-broken relationship with his son, another finally took that trip abroad she’d postponed for years.
Close your eyes and picture your own version of success – whether big or small. It might be eating at a restaurant without panicking, or speaking up for yourself, or just waking up excited for the day. That picture can become your reality. Our team will encourage you to hold onto that vision throughout treatment, because that is what all the hard work is for. And when you graduate from our Chicago anxiety program, we’ll be the first to celebrate the new chapter that begins – one where anxiety is no longer the author of your story, you are.
Your brighter future is within reach. At SunCloud Health Chicago, we help you see it, believe in it, and achieve it – step by step.

Types of Therapy We Offer for Anxiety in Chicago
- Individual Psychotherapy (CBT and more): One-on-one counseling is a core part of treatment. Our therapists often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which research shows is the most effective psychotherapy for anxiety. In CBT sessions, you’ll learn to identify negative thought patterns and gently challenge them, replacing them with healthier, realistic thoughts. You’ll also practice gradual exposure therapy as needed – for example, if you have social anxiety, your therapist might role-play feared situations with you, then support you as you practice real-life exposures. Over time, facing your fears in a controlled way helps reduce their power. Depending on your case, our clinicians can also integrate other approaches like Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) or psychodynamic therapy. The key is, your individual therapy is tailored to you.
- Group Therapy and Peer Support: Healing happens in community, so we provide group therapy sessions where you’ll connect with others overcoming similar challenges. In these confidential groups, led by a therapist, you might share experiences, build interpersonal skills, and learn from each other’s victories and setbacks. For many, group therapy is incredibly validating – you realize you’re not the only one feeling this way. You also get to practice social and communication skills in a safe setting. Our Chicago center’s group rooms are arranged in a circle of comfortable chairs to facilitate open, equal conversation among members. Patients often say the group becomes like a second family who “gets it.” This peer support can greatly boost your confidence and keep you motivated.
- Family Therapy: Anxiety doesn’t just affect you; it can affect your loved ones and home life, too. That’s why we offer family therapy as part of our program. With your consent, we’ll invite family members (or a partner or close friend) to join some sessions. In family therapy, we work on education and communication: your loved ones learn more about your anxiety (so they understand it’s not “just stress” you can snap out of), and we teach them ways to support your recovery. You all can address any family dynamics that might be influencing your anxiety as well. Often, anxiety can improve when the whole family is pulling together. Even if your relatives are out of state, we can include them via phone or video conference. Involving family helps ensure that when you get better, everyone is on the same page about how to keep you feeling good at home.
- Mindfulness and Stress-Reduction Practices: Since anxiety is a state of both mind and body, we incorporate mindfulness-based therapies and relaxation exercises to help you find calm. This can include guided meditation sessions, deep breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation, or even therapeutic yoga classes. For example, we may start a group session with 10 minutes of deep breathing and grounding techniques – you’ll close your eyes, breathe slowly, and learn to bring your focus to the present moment rather than the “what ifs” of the future. These practices are powerful for reducing physiological symptoms of anxiety (like lowering a racing heart or releasing muscle tension). Over time, you’ll get better at using these techniques whenever anxiety spikes. We also sometimes use biofeedback or mindfulness apps as tools. The idea is to equip you with practical skills you can use anywhere, anytime to self-soothe. Patients often find that incorporating a daily mindfulness routine dramatically reduces their overall anxiety levels.
- Holistic and Creative Therapies: SunCloud Health believes in healing the whole person. Along with traditional talk therapy, you may have opportunities for expressive therapies. For instance, art therapy or journaling exercises can help you express feelings that are hard to put into spoken words. Some sessions might involve movement or stretching to get you out of your head and into your body. We also educate you on lifestyle factors: the importance of sleep, nutrition, exercise in managing anxiety. If appropriate, you might have a session with our dietitian to see if things like caffeine or blood sugar swings could be affecting your anxiety. Our approach is comprehensive and integrative – addressing mind, body, and spirit.
- Medication Management: While therapy is the backbone of treatment, we do have psychiatric providers (like psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners) who can evaluate whether medication would be a helpful addition. If you are already on medication when you come to us, our doctor will review it and collaborate with your current prescriber (or take over prescribing if you prefer) to ensure your meds are optimal. If you’re not on meds, we might suggest a trial of something if your anxiety is very intense or if you have co-occurring issues like depression. Common meds for anxiety include SSRIs/SNRIs (such as sertraline or venlafaxine) which are antidepressants that also ease anxiety, or buspirone, an anti-anxiety medication for generalized anxiety. We use benzodiazepines (like lorazepam or clonazepam) sparingly – typically short-term or situationally – because our focus is building long-term coping skills, not creating dependence. Any medication use is closely monitored and is always combined with therapy, not in place of it. Our philosophy is to use the lowest effective dose for the shortest necessary duration, while your own abilities to manage anxiety grow. Medication review and adjustments will likely be part of your weekly routine if you’re prescribed something, and of course, you can discuss any concerns or side effects with our doctor anytime.
- Specialized Therapies (as needed): SunCloud’s team has expertise in a range of specialized treatments. For example, if past trauma is fueling your anxiety, we might incorporate trauma-focused therapies such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) or CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy). If you have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, we will use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) techniques specifically tailored to OCD. Teens and young adults might have sessions focused on building independence and resilience for their stage of life. Whatever your unique situation, we likely have a modality or expert that can address it. Rest assured, every tool we use is evidence-based and has a strong track record of helping people with anxiety.
Why SunCloud Health Is Different
- Integrated, Whole-Person Care: SunCloud Health operates on an integrated treatment model that addresses all parts of you – mind, body, and spirit – and any co-occurring issues at the same time. Many people with anxiety also struggle with other challenges (depression, trauma, eating disorders, addiction, etc.). Instead of treating each issue separately or sequentially, we treat you as a whole person. Our team is skilled in managing complex cases where anxiety might be tied to other diagnoses. For example, if you have anxiety and a history of trauma, we will treat both together; if you have panic attacks and also misuse alcohol to cope, we’ll treat the panic and the substance use together. This integrated approach is essential for a lasting recovery. We don’t put band-aids on symptoms – we aim for true healing at the root level.
- Highly Personalized Treatment Plans: We firmly believe that one size does not fit all in mental health. From day one, we emphasize a personalized approach. Our clinicians take the time to get to know your story in depth and involve you in crafting your treatment plan. We consider your personality, learning style, background, and preferences. Do you learn better with visuals or writing? Do you prefer a gentle push or more time and space? We adapt to you. Throughout treatment, we solicit your feedback and make adjustments. You’ll never be stuck in a rigid program that isn’t meeting your needs – we continuously tailor the experience. This level of individualization leads to better engagement and outcomes. You feel seen and heard at SunCloud Chicago, and that makes a huge difference in recovery.
- Expert & Compassionate Team (Leadership and Staff): Our Chicago center is staffed by some of the most dedicated and experienced professionals in the field. Not only do they have impressive credentials, but they also have heart. SunCloud was co-founded by Dr. Kim Dennis, a renowned expert who has instilled a culture of empathy and excellence. We maintain low client-to-staff ratios, meaning you get plenty of attention and support. Our team meets daily to discuss each patient’s progress – truly leaving no one behind. We’re also honest and ethical in our practices. For instance, if during the intake process we feel we’re not the best fit for you, we’ll tell you – even though that means referring you elsewhere. (In fact, we admit under 50% of inquiries because we carefully ensure each admission is appropriate. Your wellbeing comes before our business.) But if you do join us, you get a committed team that will go all-in to help you succeed. Also, SunCloud’s staff is continuously learning. We hold in-house trainings, invite industry experts, and keep up with the latest research. You’re getting cutting-edge care delivered by clinicians who are warm, non-judgmental, and truly passionate about what they do.
- Collaborative and Empowering Culture: SunCloud Health does treatment with you, not to you. You’ll notice our approach is very collaborative. We view our patients as partners. In group sessions, you might see a therapist participating alongside clients in a mindfulness exercise – we don’t place ourselves above you; we’re on the journey with you. This down-to-earth style helps you feel safe to open up. We also empower you by educating you about your condition (knowledge is power!) and involving you in decision-making. By the time you leave, you’ll likely feel a strong sense of ownership of your recovery. We want you to graduate feeling, “I did this,” not that we “fixed” you. That confidence carries forward. Many patients also stay in touch after treatment, joining our community events or alumni groups – once you’re part of the SunCloud family, we’re here for you long-term.
- Full Continuum of Care Under One Roof: SunCloud Health provides a wide range of services – from residential treatment to PHP to IOP to weekly outpatient therapy – across our locations. In Chicago, we focus on PHP and IOP levels for anxiety, but because we’re networked with our Northbrook residential facility and others, we can seamlessly step you up or down as needed without disruption. If, say, during outpatient treatment we realize you’d benefit from a short residential stay due to severity, we can facilitate that within SunCloud. Conversely, if you complete PHP and want to continue with once-a-week therapy, you can do that with the same team instead of switching providers. This continuity is incredibly helpful. It means your care is cohesive and coordinated every step of the way. You won’t fall through cracks transitioning between services. Additionally, we provide aftercare and alumni support (like ongoing groups, check-ins, etc.), so it’s not like you’re on your own after the program. Many treatment centers discharge you and that’s it; SunCloud stays available to you as a lifelong resource.
- Focus on Underlying Trauma and Co-Occurring Disorders: A big differentiator for SunCloud is our expertise in treating complex cases. We’re not just an anxiety clinic; we’re a multidisciplinary treatment center. If your anxiety is tied up with something else (for example, you have panic attacks and an eating disorder, or anxiety with bipolar disorder, etc.), we have the specialists and programs to handle it all at once. Our team has deep experience in trauma-informed care – we know how past trauma can manifest as present anxiety, and we incorporate therapies to heal those old wounds. Similarly, we can concurrently treat anxiety and substance use (using a harm-reduction or abstinence model as appropriate). Many providers might shy away from complexity, but we embrace it. This means patients who haven’t found help elsewhere (because other programs said, “deal with your addiction first, then come for anxiety,” or vice versa) find success with us by tackling everything together. It’s a much more effective approach for lasting recovery.
- Accredited and Credentialed: SunCloud Health meets the highest standards in healthcare quality and safety. We are fully licensed by the state of Illinois and hold national accreditations that demonstrate our commitment to excellence. Notably, we are accredited by The Joint Commission – you might recognize their Gold Seal of Approval, which we proudly display as a symbol of top-tier care. This accreditation means we undergo rigorous audits and consistently adhere to best practices in client care, safety protocols, and treatment outcomes. Additionally, SunCloud Health and our staff hold memberships or certifications with professional organizations like the American Psychiatric Association, the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, IAEDP, and others. These affiliations mean we’re always in the loop with the latest advancements in the field. For you, all these trust marks are reassurance that SunCloud is a reputable, high-quality program. We truly walk the talk when it comes to clinical excellence.
- Positive Outcomes and Patient Satisfaction: We’re proud of our track record (see “Our Track Record” section below for more on our success metrics). In short, our patients consistently report high satisfaction with our services and, most importantly, significant improvement in their lives. Many refer friends or family to us after their own positive experience – a huge compliment. Our approach is data-informed: we gather outcome data (like symptom questionnaires at intake and discharge) to ensure our treatments are making a real difference. We continuously refine our programs based on what works. This dedication to outcomes means you can expect real results. SunCloud isn’t a place of quick fixes or superficial therapy – we aim for deep, meaningful change, and we have a history of achieving it.
What We Treat Beyond Anxiety
- Mood Disorders: Depression (including treatment-resistant depression), bipolar disorder, and other mood issues frequently accompany anxiety. Our team is well-versed in treating these concurrently. For instance, if you have both anxiety and depression, we’ll create a plan to improve your mood and reduce worry in tandem, since these conditions often feed into each other.
- Trauma and PTSD: Unresolved trauma or PTSD can be a root cause of chronic anxiety. At SunCloud, trauma-informed care is a cornerstone. We treat PTSD, complex trauma, and acute stress disorders with therapies like EMDR, CPT, and somatic experiencing, integrated right into your anxiety treatment if needed. Healing trauma can significantly reduce anxiety – we’ve seen it time and again.
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): OCD is a specific type of anxiety-related disorder that we treat with specialized approaches (like Exposure and Response Prevention). If your anxiety has a more obsessive or compulsive flavor (intrusive thoughts, repetitive behaviors), know that our clinicians have the expertise to help you overcome OCD as well.
- Eating Disorders: Anxiety and eating disorders often interlink (for example, anxiety might drive someone to hyper-control their eating, or disordered eating can cause anxiety spikes). SunCloud Health is particularly strong in treating eating disorders – anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, etc. – and we often treat them alongside mood/anxiety disorders. In fact, our Northbrook location has a specialized residential program for co-occurring eating disorders and addictions. If you have any eating or body image issues co-occurring with anxiety, you’ll be in very capable hands with our team (which includes dietitians and certified eating disorder specialists).
- Substance Use Disorders: Many individuals cope with anxiety by using alcohol or drugs (think: that “one glass of wine to take the edge off” which turned into a few too many). SunCloud Health is a dual-licensed mental health and addiction treatment center. We can treat substance use disorders – alcohol, prescription medications, illicit drugs – alongside your anxiety. Our approach is compassionate and can be tailored to your goals (abstinence or harm reduction). We have medical providers who can assist with detox if necessary, and therapists skilled in addiction counseling. By treating anxiety and addiction together, you have a much better chance at achieving both sobriety and calm.
- Process Addictions & Other Behavioral Issues: Beyond the classic diagnoses, we also help with things like compulsive behaviors (gambling, internet addiction, etc.), self-harm behaviors, and more. Anxiety can sometimes manifest through these channels or be exacerbated by them. Our broad range of expertise means we rarely have to refer you out for other issues – we can manage it all under our roof.
- Adolescents’ and Teens’ Issues: We mentioned earlier that we serve adolescents too. Issues like school refusal, social anxiety in teens, self-esteem problems, or teen substance experimentation – we cover those in our Adolescent Program. So if you’re a parent reading this, know that SunCloud Health can treat more than just your child’s anxiety; we support the whole child (and family), addressing academic pressures, peer issues, and developmental needs.
Insurances Accepted at Our Chicago Center
We understand that navigating insurance can be one of the most stressful parts of seeking treatment. Rest assured, SunCloud Health Chicago accepts a wide range of insurance plans to make getting help as accessible and affordable as possible. We are in-network with many major insurance providers, including but not limited to:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS): This includes BCBS of Illinois PPO plans and many out-of-state BCBS PPO plans. We also accept BCBS Federal plans and several BCBS HMO plans through Illinois provider groups/networks.
- UnitedHealthcare / Optum: We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Optum, and United Behavioral Health plans. This also extends to UMR, AllSavers, and United student resources plans.
- Aetna: SunCloud is in-network with Aetna and its affiliate plans (like First Health, HealthSmart, etc.).
- Cigna / Evernorth: We accept Cigna and Evernorth behavioral health plans.
- Humana: We are in-network with Humana plans.
- Tricare East: We work with Tricare East for military families (coverage for PHP/IOP for certain age groups, as allowed).
- Kaiser Permanente: Kaiser patients (in certain networks) can also access SunCloud Health in-network.
- Magellan, Beacon, ComPsych, and Other Managed Behavioral Health: We are contracted with several behavioral health carve-out plans like Beacon Health (Carelon), ComPsych, Magellan, and more.
- …and many others. This is not an exhaustive list! SunCloud Health is continually working to be in-network with as many insurers as possible. If you don’t see your insurance listed here, please contact us – often we can work with your plan. We can also accept many out-of-network plans and will coordinate single-case agreements where applicable.
Payment and Insurance Process: When you reach out to us, our admissions/insurance team will gladly verify your benefits for you. We’ll explain exactly what your insurance is likely to cover (like what percentage of program costs, any co-pay or deductible you’d be responsible for, etc.). Many of our patients use their in-network benefits to pay for treatment, typically just owing a deductible or co-insurance portion out-of-pocket. We know insurance language can be confusing, so we’ll break it down and even help with any necessary authorizations. Our goal is to minimize any financial surprises.
Transparency: Upon admission, we’ll provide a financial agreement outlining all terms, and we’re happy to answer questions. We also have policies in place to work with patients if financial hardships arise – the bottom line is we want you to get care. We’ll do everything we can to maximize your benefits and reduce financial barriers.
No Medicaid/Medicare: It is important to note that SunCloud Health is a private treatment center and currently we do not accept Medicaid or Medicare plans. If you have Medicaid/Medicare only, our team can refer you to appropriate resources that do accept those.
Self-Pay and Financing: If you are planning to pay out-of-pocket (or have a high deductible plan), we can discuss private pay rates. We accept credit cards, checks, and can work with Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). In some cases, we may arrange payment plans. While treatment is an investment, we strive to keep our rates fair and commensurate with the high quality of care. We’ll be upfront about all costs before you start.
Navigating insurance can be stressful – let us handle that part for you. Our dedicated billing specialists and admissions coordinators will communicate with your insurer on your behalf, so you can focus on healing. We have a strong track record of securing coverage approvals for the care you need, because we thoroughly document medical necessity and advocate for our patients. If any issues arise with insurance during your stay, we’ll address them immediately and keep you informed.
In summary, SunCloud Health Chicago likely has you covered, literally. Being in-network with most major insurance providers allows many patients to access our anxiety treatment program with minimal out-of-pocket costs beyond normal cost-sharing. Don’t let worries about insurance stop you from reaching out – we are here to help make it work. When you call us, feel free to have your insurance information handy, and we’ll jump into figuring out the best financial route so you can get the treatment you deserve.
(For specific insurance questions or to verify your coverage, please contact our admissions office. We’ll provide personalized guidance based on your plan.)
A Look Inside: Photo Tour of Our Chicago Facility
To give you a better sense of SunCloud Health’s Chicago center, let’s take a virtual tour through some photos of our facility. Our treatment environment is designed to be calming, comfortable, and conducive to healing – a space where you can feel at ease as you work on your recovery.
Our group therapy room at SunCloud Chicago is open and inviting. Large windows overlook the Lincoln Park neighborhood, bathing the room in natural light. Here, you’ll find a circle of comfy chairs where group sessions take place. This airy setting helps you feel connected to the outside world (you can even spot the city skyline in the distance on clear days) while providing a safe, private space for sharing and growth. Patients often comment on how the sunlight and views make them feel more relaxed during therapy – it’s the opposite of a windowless, clinical room. Everything about this space is intentional: the round arrangement fosters openness and equality, and the absence of a desk or podium means it’s our space, not just the therapist’s. You can imagine yourself sitting here, maybe a bit nervous at first, but soon feeling the support in the room and realizing this is a place where you can let your guard down.
We’ve also created cozy lounge areas and therapy offices that feel like living rooms. In the photo above, you see one of our counseling rooms. There’s a soft couch with plush pillows and a couple of armchairs, arranged in a way that feels intimate but not intimidating. Warm touches – like the pillow embroidered with the word “calm,” gentle lighting, and tasteful décor – all serve to put you at ease. This is where you might have one-on-one sessions or just relax between groups. Our aim was to make these rooms homelike, so you don’t feel like you’re in a doctor’s office. Many clients tell us that the ambiance alone helps lower their anxiety; it feels safe, private, and comfortable. Notice the small details: an orchid by the window, artwork on the walls – these elements create a serene atmosphere. We want you to feel welcome and cared for from the moment you step in.
We also have other amenities in our Chicago facility:
- Welcoming Reception Area: When you arrive at our 1840 N. Clybourn Ave location, you’ll step off the elevator to a friendly reception area. Our front desk staff will greet you by name (after the first day, they’ll remember you!). The reception is decorated with soothing colors and often has inspirational quotes or art on the walls. We keep coffee, tea, and water available. It’s not uncommon to find a bowl of chocolates or snacks out as a little comfort treat.
- Multiple Group Rooms: In addition to the big group room with city views, we have a couple of other group meeting spaces. Some are set up with sofas in a semi-circle, others with tables for activities. This allows us to run different groups (or family sessions) simultaneously, and gives variety to your day. One room has a smart TV/monitor where we sometimes show educational videos or mindfulness visuals (like nature scenes) during meditation exercises.
- Private Therapy Offices: Our therapists each have their own offices as well, furnished similar to the photo – think cozy chairs, tissues within reach, soft lighting. Privacy is paramount; all offices are soundproofed so your conversations remain confidential.
- Creative/Quiet Space: We have a small room stocked with art supplies, journals, and a yoga mat or two. Patients can use this space for art therapy sessions or if they need a quiet break to de-stress (perhaps coloring or writing in a journal).
- Kitchenette and Dining Space: For those in PHP (day program), we have a kitchenette where you can store your lunch (we have a fridge and microwave). There’s a dining area where patients and staff often eat together during breaks. Sharing a meal or coffee together adds to the community feel – it’s informal and supportive.
- Soothing Elements: Throughout the facility, we’ve added touches to create a soothing sensory environment. You might notice gentle aromatherapy diffusers emitting lavender in some rooms (unless someone is sensitive to scents, then we skip it). We play soft background music in reception and hallways. There are small indoor plants adding greenery, and our signature SunCloud yellow cloud logo here and there which symbolizes hope and clarity.
Importantly, our Chicago center is professional and secure. We are located in a modern building with security, and our suite is accessible via elevators (fully ADA-compliant). There’s a discreet check-in, so your privacy is maintained – other people on the floor might not even know if you’re coming to a medical office or one of the other businesses in the building (which helps if you’re worried about being seen going to “therapy”). We also ensure the space is clean and well-maintained at all times. Especially with health considerations nowadays, we uphold high standards of sanitation and have measures in place (like air purifiers) to keep the environment healthy.
Patients often say SunCloud’s facility feels “calm and safe.” We’ve even had someone joke, “Can I decorate my home like this?” because they found it so peaceful. The thought and care put into our physical space reflect our overall approach: we care about your comfort and well-being in every aspect of treatment.
So, picture yourself walking in: you take a seat on a comfy couch, sunlight streaming in, perhaps a view of the Chicago skyline in the background. A friendly therapist offers you a cup of tea. You take a deep breath and feel a small wave of relief – you’re in the right place, and you’re going to be taken care of here. That’s the feeling we strive to create with our facility.
(If you’d like to see more, we welcome you to schedule a tour of our Chicago location. Sometimes seeing the space in person can ease nerves before starting. We’re happy to show you around!)
The Heart of Lincoln Park: Explore Our Chicago Location
SunCloud Health’s Chicago anxiety treatment center is nestled in the heart of Lincoln Park, one of Chicago’s most vibrant and accessible neighborhoods. Our address is 1840 N. Clybourn Avenue, Suite 520, Chicago, IL 60614 – conveniently located near the intersection of North Avenue, Clybourn, and Halsted Street, in the area often referred to as the Clybourn Corridor.
Urban Convenience, Neighborhood Charm: Lincoln Park is a lively community known for its mix of city energy and neighborhood feel. We like to think that our location offers the best of both worlds for our patients. On one hand, we’re in a bustling area with plenty of amenities (more on that in a moment), which makes coming to treatment easy and comfortable. On the other hand, the neighborhood is safe, walkable, and full of tree-lined streets just a couple of blocks away, providing a peaceful backdrop that can be therapeutic in itself.
Easily Accessible: Whether you’re coming from downtown, elsewhere in Chicago, or the suburbs, getting to our center is straightforward. We are:
- By Car: Just a few minutes drive from the I-90/94 Kennedy Expressway (exit at North Ave). Major streets like North Ave, Clybourn, Halsted, and Sheffield lead you close to our building. There is ample street parking around and a parking garage in our building complex (shared with the retail stores on the lower levels). So if you’re driving, you won’t be circling the block endlessly – parking is generally accessible. Many of our patients from areas like Bucktown, Wicker Park, Old Town, Gold Coast, and even further north (Evanston, etc.) find the drive convenient.
- By Public Transit: Our location is a commuter’s dream. We’re about a 5-minute walk from the CTA Red Line – North/Clybourn Station. If you take the L train, once you get off at North/Clybourn, you’re essentially here – no need for a car. Numerous CTA bus routes also service the area (such as the #8 Halsted bus, #72 North Ave bus, and others). We even link to CTA maps on our site because it’s such a popular way for patients to reach us. Public transit accessibility means even if you live on the South Side or don’t have a car, you can attend our program without hassle.
- For Local Strolls: If you happen to live in Lincoln Park, Old Town, Lakeview or nearby, you might even walk or bike to us. There are bike racks by the building and plenty of Divvy bike stations around for those using Chicago’s bike-share.
Landmarks and Amenities: Our building (known to some as the “Bedford Building” or just the retail complex with HomeGoods/Aldi) is a multi-use complex. On the ground floor you’ll find stores like HomeGoods, Aldi, and other retail shops, and on upper floors, offices like ours. This means when you come here, you blend right in with shoppers and professionals – it keeps things low-key. You could easily grab groceries or a coffee before/after your sessions, which many patients appreciate. In fact, there’s a Starbucks and a Panera Bread just a stone’s throw away, as well as local cafes and eateries on North Avenue. Some clients like to arrive a bit early to get a coffee, or stay after group to have lunch at a nearby spot – turning therapy days into something they look forward to as part of their routine.
The famous Lincoln Park (the actual park) and Lincoln Park Zoo are about a mile east. While you’re in treatment, you might choose to take a calming walk in the park or along the lakefront (a short drive/bus ride) on nice days. Nature can be a great supplement to therapy, and we encourage healthy outings. Our team can suggest local spots if you’re looking for a quiet place to reflect between sessions – e.g., Oz Park is a quaint park several blocks north of us, perfect for a breather.
Community Integration: Being in an active urban setting helps some people feel connected to normal life even while in an intensive treatment program. You’re not sequestered away in some remote location; you’re healing right in your own city, learning to manage anxiety in the real environment where you live and work. During breaks, you might step outside and see regular life happening – people walking dogs, doing shopping – and it reminds you that you’re part of that world, too, and getting ready to fully participate in it without anxiety holding you back. Sometimes our therapists will even do a mindfulness walk with the group around the block, just to practice being present in the bustling city surroundings.
Privacy in a Busy Area: Despite being in a busy area, our actual suite is very private. We have frosted glass on our doors and confidentiality measures so no one knows why you’re in the building. The advantage of our location is if someone sees you entering 1840 N. Clybourn, they’d have no idea if you’re going to the store, the gym, an office, or treatment – your purpose is your business only. We’re discreet and understand the importance of confidentiality, especially in a city where you might bump into acquaintances.
Local Feel: Lincoln Park is often called a “village in the city.” There’s a close-knit feel with many community resources. We network with local physicians, psychiatrists, and other professionals, so if you need additional services, we can refer you to trusted colleagues nearby. We’re proud to be part of this community and occasionally host or participate in local mental health events, workshops, or charity runs (some of which take place right in Lincoln Park). When you join SunCloud Chicago, you’re also becoming part of a local community that cares about wellness.
In essence, our Lincoln Park location offers convenience, comfort, and a bit of Chicago charm. We’re easy to find, easy to access, and surrounded by a supportive urban environment. Many clients enjoy the routine of coming to this familiar neighborhood – it starts to feel like a second home. They’ll pick up their favorite smoothie on the way in, know the barista by name, maybe pop into the bookstore down the street after therapy to reward themselves. Recovery doesn’t happen in a vacuum; doing it here in Lincoln Park helps integrate the healing into your everyday life.
So, whether you’re a city dweller or coming from the suburbs, you’ll find our Chicago location to be convenient and welcoming. We invite you to not only work on yourself inside our center but also to enjoy the neighborhood as part of your healing journey.
(Fun tip: If you’re here during the summer, you can catch the Green City Farmers Market in Lincoln Park or a free zoo visit after a session – little perks of the location that patients have loved!)
Certifications, Accreditations, and Trust Marks
- The Joint Commission Accreditation (Gold Seal of Approval): SunCloud Health is accredited by The Joint Commission, which is often considered the gold standard in healthcare accreditation. The Gold Seal on our website and materials isn’t just for show – it signifies that we meet or exceed the highest national standards for safety, quality of care, and patient rights. The Joint Commission conducts rigorous on-site surveys of our facilities and procedures. Their accreditation means that we have demonstrated a devotion to patient safety and continuous improvement. For our patients, this provides assurance that SunCloud Health operates with the same level of excellence you’d expect from a top hospital or medical center. We maintain strict protocols for things like infection control, emergency preparedness, staff training, and treatment planning. In short, we uphold the highest quality in behavioral healthcare – it’s checked and verified by an independent body.
- State Licensing and Approvals: Our program and clinicians are fully licensed by the state of Illinois. This includes licensure by the Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois Department of Human Services for substance use treatment. (You might see the Illinois Department of Human Services logo on our site, indicating we are recognized and approved by the relevant state authority.) Additionally, each of our therapists, doctors, and nurses holds active Illinois licenses in their respective fields (e.g., LCSW, LCPC, MD, RN, etc.). We also have Licensed Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CADC) and other certified specialists on staff. All licensing means we adhere to state-mandated standards for care, safety, and ethics.
- Experienced and Credentialed Staff: Beyond facility certifications, our team members have individual credentials that speak to their expertise. For example, Dr. Kim Dennis is an MD, board-certified in psychiatry, with certification as an eating disorder specialist (CEDS). We have staff certified in trauma therapy, some with certifications from organizations like the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, etc. Our lead clinicians are often members of professional organizations and may hold leadership or committee positions there. While these aren’t “stamps” you see on a website, they reflect a depth of knowledge and a commitment to staying at the forefront of the field.
- Professional Memberships and Partnerships: SunCloud Health is a member of various industry groups and coalitions that promote quality care. For instance, we’re part of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP) and other collaborative networks that keep us accountable and connected to best practices. We also have a Scientific Advisory Board (comprised of experts in psychiatry, psychology, and medicine) that guides our program development – ensuring we stay aligned with the latest science.
- Awards and Recognitions: While our biggest reward is our patients’ success, we have been recognized in the community and industry. For example, our founder Dr. Kim has been invited to speak at national conferences, and SunCloud might be featured in publications or local media from time to time on topics of mental health innovation. Our accreditations and certifications, however, are the formal testament to our quality.
- We operate ethically and legally.
- We prioritize your safety.
- We employ qualified professionals and proven methods.
- We keep your information confidential and secure.
- We value continuous improvement – we’re not static; we evolve with new knowledge.

A: We treat the full spectrum of anxiety disorders. This includes Generalized Anxiety Disorder (chronic worry), Panic Disorder (panic attacks), Social Anxiety Disorder (social phobia), Specific Phobias (like fear of flying, heights, etc.), and Anxiety related to life stress or health issues.
We also treat OCD and PTSD, which are related conditions often associated with anxiety. In short, if anxiety is a core problem – whether it manifests as constant nervousness, acute panic episodes, obsessive fears, or trauma responses – we have expertise to help. Our team will identify exactly what form(s) of anxiety you’re dealing with and tailor the treatment accordingly. Many people have more than one type of anxiety (for example, panic attacks and social anxiety), and we can address all simultaneously.
Q: Will I have to take medication for my anxiety if I enroll in the program?
A: Not necessarily. Medication is not required – it’s just one tool that may or may not be appropriate for you. Some of our patients do very well without any medication at all, focusing only on therapy and holistic practices. Others find a combination of therapy + medication most effective. During your initial evaluation, our psychiatrist will discuss options with you. If you’re open to it and it’s clinically indicated, we might recommend trying an anti-anxiety or antidepressant medication to complement your therapy. Common medications include SSRIs (like Zoloft, Prozac), which are often effective for anxiety, or buspirone for generalized anxiety.
Many patients start meds for a period of stability and later, under doctor guidance, taper off as their coping skills strengthen. We truly believe in patient-centered care, so there’s no one-size-fits-all. If you prefer a non-medication approach, we’ll lean into therapies, nutrition, exercise, supplements – any alternative strategies that are safe and effective. Our goal is your comfort and progress.
Q: Can I continue working or going to school while I’m in the program?
A: In most cases, yes. One of the advantages of our outpatient levels of care (PHP and IOP) is flexibility. If you do our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), it is a daytime commitment (roughly 6 hours/day, weekdays), so you would likely need to take a leave from work or school during that period. Some employers have short-term disability or FMLA options that we can help facilitate documentation for.
If that’s not feasible, many patients opt for our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) which often has schedule options in the evenings or partial days, allowing you to continue with some work or school involvement. For example, you might attend IOP sessions from 5pm-8pm, leaving your daytime free for a job or classes.
We also currently have a Virtual Evening IOP, meaning you could log in from home after work. Outpatient treatment is designed to integrate with your life – you can live at home, continue daily routines, and apply what you learn in the real world as you go. Many of our patients do continue working part-time or full-time, or stay enrolled in school, especially in IOP. We’ll work with you to find a balance – ensuring you get the intensity of treatment you need without derailing other important responsibilities if possible.
However, remember that investing time in treatment now can greatly improve your ability to work or study long-term. If taking a few weeks off for PHP is doable, it’s worth considering for a strong foundation (and we can provide documentation to your employer or school about medical necessity). Everyone’s situation is different, and we will individualize the plan to fit your life circumstances as best as we can.
Q: Do you treat teenagers with anxiety at this location, or only adults?
A: Yes, we treat adolescents (teens) as well! Our Chicago (Lincoln Park) center offers specialized programming for adolescents typically aged 13-17 who are struggling with anxiety and related issues. We have an Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Adolescent Partial Hospitalization (PHP) available.
The adolescent groups are kept separate from the adult groups, so teens will be with peers of their own age and led by therapists who specialize in youth. We involve families heavily in teen treatment (with family therapy and parent support). Issues like school anxiety, social media stress, academic pressure, and family conflict often intertwine with teen anxiety, and we address all of that.
If you’re a parent seeking help for an anxious teen, or a teen yourself reading this, know that SunCloud has a compassionate team (including child & adolescent psychiatrists and therapists) ready to help young people. For young adults (18+), they usually join the adult program, but we certainly customize to their stage of life (college pressures, transitioning to independence, etc.).
So, in summary, both teens and adults can find appropriate anxiety treatment at our Chicago location. When you contact us, let us know the age of the person needing help, and we will guide you to the right program.
Q: Does insurance cover my anxiety treatment program?
A: In many cases, Yes, insurance covers a significant portion of treatment. SunCloud Health is in-network with most major insurance plans (Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, United/Optum, Humana, and more). If we are in-network with your insurer, they typically cover the bulk of PHP/IOP program costs, leaving you responsible only for co-pays, deductibles, or co-insurance as per your plan.
Even if we’re out-of-network, we often can arrange single-case agreements or utilize out-of-network benefits. Our admissions team will verify your benefits and explain exactly what your insurance will pay vs. what your portion would be. Many patients are pleasantly surprised that their out-of-pocket costs are minimal, especially for IOP. We handle all the insurance authorization and billing so you don’t have to stress. We also help with things like FMLA or short-term disability paperwork if you need time off work – those are often covered when treatment is deemed medically necessary.
Keep in mind, every plan is different: some may have limits or require periodic authorization (which we manage on your behalf, sending updates to insurance to justify continued care). We do not accept Medicare/Medicaid, but for private insurance or self-pay, we will find a workable solution. Ultimately, we don’t want finances to be a barrier – we’ll work with you to maximize benefits or discuss payment plans if needed.
When you call us, an insurance specialist on our team will gather your info and usually within a short time, get back to you with the specifics of your coverage. Peace of mind: getting help is likely more affordable than you think, and the value of overcoming anxiety is incalculable. We’re here to help you navigate the insurance process smoothly.
Q: What if I have other mental health issues (like depression or addiction) along with anxiety? Can SunCloud handle that or do I need separate programs?
A: SunCloud Health specializes in integrated treatment, which means we can absolutely handle co-occurring issues together in one program. If you have depression, bipolar, trauma, an eating disorder, or substance use in addition to anxiety, we will incorporate care for all of it.
Our team includes experts in various fields (psychiatrists, addiction specialists, trauma therapists, etc.), and we design an individualized plan to address all your challenges simultaneously. This is often more effective than trying to treat each issue separately. For instance, if you have anxiety and an opioid dependence, we can manage medication-assisted treatment for the opioid use while doing therapy for anxiety – coordinating the approach.
Or if you have panic disorder and PTSD, we will treat the trauma with evidence-based methods and work on panic coping skills at the same time. You won’t be bounced around or have fragmented care; we’ll be your one-stop treatment home, rallying all resources you need. The beauty of SunCloud is that our staff has diverse expertise under one roof, and we frequently treat complex cases. So yes, you’re in the right place even if your situation is not “just anxiety.”
In fact, during our assessment we look for those other factors because treating them is often key to relieving the anxiety. Our motto could be: “No problem exists in a vacuum, and we treat the whole person.” So bring your whole self, with whatever mix of issues – we are equipped and very willing to help you heal on all fronts.
Q: How long does the anxiety treatment program last?
A: The length of the program can vary depending on individual progress and level of care. Generally, our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for anxiety might last around 3 to 4 weeks of intensive daily treatment, sometimes longer (4-6 weeks) if needed. Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) might run for about 6 to 8 weeks, attending sessions a few times per week.
However, these are averages – some people may complete IOP in 4 weeks, others may stay 10-12 weeks, especially if stepping down gradually from PHP to IOP. We don’t enforce a rigid timeline; instead, we collaboratively decide when you’re ready to graduate based on clinical milestones and your confidence in managing anxiety. We continuously assess your symptom improvement using scales and your own feedback.
When you reach a point where goals are met and anxiety symptoms are significantly reduced (or well-managed), we plan for discharge from the intensive program. Keep in mind, after “graduation”, many clients continue with weekly outpatient therapy (either with us or another provider) or join aftercare groups, so support is ongoing but less frequent. If you’re worrying, “Is it going to be too short or too long?”, know that we’ll individualize it. Some find they feel much better after a month and are ready to taper down, while others benefit from a few extra weeks of structured support.
Our priority is that you leave feeling prepared and empowered, not rushed. Research and our experience suggest that a few months of focused treatment can lead to life-changing results for anxiety disorders – a relatively small time investment for getting your life back. We’ll discuss the estimated timeline with you during intake and keep you updated as you progress. Ultimately, you have a say too; we won’t keep you in treatment unnecessarily, but we also won’t push you out the door until you feel solid.
Q: What does a typical day in the program look like?
A: A typical day at SunCloud’s anxiety program is structured yet balanced. If you’re in PHP (full-day program), you might arrive in the morning (around 9am). We often start with a morning check-in group, where each person shares how they’re feeling and sets an intention for the day. Then you might have a skills group – for example, learning about cognitive-behavioral techniques or practicing a relaxation exercise.
There would be a short break, then perhaps a process group where you talk more freely about struggles and get support/guidance from peers and the therapist. Midday, we give a lunch break (usually an hour) – you can bring your lunch and eat in our common area or step out to a nearby cafe. In the afternoon, there might be an individual therapy session (each patient gets at least one individual session a week), or a family therapy session if scheduled.
Later, another group might focus on a holistic activity – say, mindfulness meditation, yoga stretches, or creative therapy. Before wrapping up (around 3pm for PHP), we do a closing group or check-out to summarize the day’s learnings and ensure everyone is stable. In IOP (half-day program), if it’s an evening IOP, you might come in at 5pm. You’d likely have two therapy groups back-to-back (with a short break), such as a DBT skills group and then a process group, and finish by 8pm. In IOP, some days might include an individual session or a case management session (working on things like return-to-work plans, etc.).
Every day has a mix of therapy, education, and practice. One day a week might be dedicated to a particular theme – e.g., “anxiety education day” where we dive into understanding the physiology of anxiety, or “exposure practice day” where, under support, you practice something anxiety-provoking (in a controlled way). We also incorporate psychiatry appointments (med management) usually once a week, which might occur during a portion of the program day. You won’t be in therapy non-stop without breaks; we know that can be intense.
There’s built-in downtime for a snack, informal chat, or just reflection. Each day is guided by a schedule so you know what to expect, and we post the weekly schedule so you can prepare for any special sessions (like maybe a guest speaker or an outing exercise). Many patients initially feel nervous about the intensity, but within a couple of days, they settle into the routine and find that the day “flies by” because it’s so engaging.
Rest assured, a “typical day” is carefully crafted to maximize healing while being supportive and even enjoyable. You’ll probably find yourself looking forward to certain groups (perhaps the meditation or the evening process group where your new friends are), and seeing your progress week by week as the days add up.
If you have more questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re here to address any concern, big or small. At SunCloud Health, we want you to be as informed and comfortable as possible as you take this brave step toward overcoming anxiety.
Our Track Record: Success Metrics That Matter
- Patient Improvement Scores: We use evidence-based assessment tools (questionnaires) to measure anxiety and depression levels when patients start and when they finish the program. The vast majority of our patients show a significant reduction in anxiety symptoms by discharge. For example, many patients go from reporting “severe” anxiety at intake to “mild” or “minimal” anxiety by the end of treatment, according to standardized scales. This translates to tangible relief: fewer panic attacks, less avoidance, improved sleep, and calmer moods. We’ve seen average anxiety score reductions that are in line with, or better than, national benchmarks for similar programs. (For the data-minded: think of metrics like GAD-7 or OASIS scores dropping substantially – which in plain terms means you feel much better.)
- High Patient Satisfaction: We regularly survey our clients about their experience. We’re proud that a high percentage of alumni express that they are very satisfied with the care they received and would recommend SunCloud Health to others. Patients often highlight specific aspects: the warmth of staff, the quality of therapy, and the feeling of being truly heard. Words like “life-changing” and “grateful” appear frequently in feedback. We don’t say that to boast, but to let you know that when you come here, you’re likely to feel the same way. In fact, internal surveys and testimonials have indicated that over 90% of our patients felt their treatment at SunCloud was a crucial turning point in their recovery journey.
- Long-Term Recovery and Relapse Prevention: Anxiety recovery isn’t just about feeling better when you finish the program – it’s about continuing to thrive afterwards. We encourage and track follow-up. A significant number of our patients maintain their improvements or continue to progress in the months and years after treatment. Some keep in touch via our alumni group or periodic check-ins, reporting that they’re using the skills they learned and managing life stresses much more effectively than before. Many have gone on to achieve personal milestones: completing school, getting new jobs, mending relationships, etc., which they attribute in part to the foundation built at SunCloud. Of course, recovery is a journey – occasional setbacks can happen. But even in those cases, our patients often handle them better or reach out sooner for help (sometimes even coming back for a brief refresher IOP if needed, which is always an option). Our aim is to equip you for sustainable anxiety management, and our track record shows that we do.
- Trusted by the Community: SunCloud Health has earned the trust of referral sources and the community. Many local therapists, psychiatrists, and physicians refer their patients to us for specialized care, which is a testament to our results. We also collaborate with universities (students often come to us during … Many local therapists, psychiatrists, and physicians trust us enough to refer their own patients to SunCloud – a strong testament to our outcomes. We’re also well-regarded by universities and schools; for instance, college counseling centers in Chicago have referred students to us for intensive support, and those students often return to campus much more stable and confident after completing our program.
Find Us: Map & Directions
- By Car: Plug the address into your GPS or mapping app. From I-90/94, exit at North Ave and head east. From Lakeshore Drive, exit at North Ave and head west. The building is part of a complex with retail stores (you’ll see signs for HomeGoods, Aldi, etc. on lower floors). There is a parking garage attached – entrance on N. Clybourn – and we validate parking for treatment visitors. Street parking is also available on Clybourn and adjacent streets.
- By Public Transit: Take the CTA Red Line to North/Clybourn station. We’re a quick 5-minute walk south from the station. Numerous bus routes (like #8 Halsted, #72 North) have stops within a block of our building. We’re also a short walk from the Metra UP-N “Clybourn” stop. Check the CTA transit maps for Lincoln Park – our location is very transit-friendly.
- Landmarks: We’re directly above the Aldi and HomeGoods stores on Clybourn. The Apple Store North Avenue and the New City shopping complex (with the Mariano’s) are a couple blocks south, and the North & Sheffield Commons (Bed Bath & Beyond, etc.) are a block north – so we’re in that retail hub area. Our entrance is a dedicated lobby for offices – look for the 1840 sign and take the elevator to 5. If you reach the CTA station or Goose Island Brewery you’ve gone a tad too far south; if you pass Crate & Barrel on North Ave, you’re a bit north of us.
