Stephanie Fleck

Education Coordinator

I believe that each individual student has untold stories and experiences that shape who they are. While lessons, curriculum, and instruction are important, the most significant element in the room is supporting the learning and growth of the people who fill it. In all my classrooms, I aim to place options and the power of choice into students’ hands, so they can mold their learning based on their passions, needs, and future goals.

Stephanie is a certified English teacher who has taught at both the secondary and postsecondary levels. She taught high school for over a decade and is also an adjunct professor at College of Lake County.

Before joining SunCloud Health, Stephanie worked with high school students at every level–from remedial to honors– as well as specializing in helping students with executive functioning and social-emotional learning. Stephanie holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Education from Illinois State University and an MFA in Creative Writing (Fiction) from Augsburg University.

Along with her co-writer, Jolene Heinemann, Stephanie has published a pedagogy book for teachers titled Choice & Voice: How to Champion Lifelong Literacy through Collaborative Reader Workshop (Rowman & Littlefield). It explores how giving choice in what students read and how they respond to texts ultimately helps them find and express their voice in and outside of the classroom. She presents regularly on this topic as well as social-emotional learning in the classroom.
