Dr. Gianakakos is a Chicago native and graduate of Northwestern University who worked as a public school teacher for 4 years before attending medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed his adult Psychiatry residency at the University of Central Florida in Orlando before returning to Chicago to finish his Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at Lurie Children’s Hospital. He is currently an Assistant Professor in Loyola University Medical Center’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences, with particular interests in adolescent affective disorders and the increasing need for mental health resources in today’s schools. He most enjoys the time spent working with residents and medical students and places enormous importance on the fostering of a new generation of thoughtful and caring psychiatrists.
