Supporting Adolescents Through Life’s Big Transitions: Summer Programming That Makes a Difference

The transition from elementary to middle school—or from middle school to high school or even from one grade to the next—can be an exciting yet deeply challenging time for adolescents. These years are often filled with emotional growing pains, rising academic pressures, and the social and personal complexities of growing up in a fast-paced digital world.

That’s why our adolescent summer programs are designed to be more than just a seasonal activity. They’re a supportive, therapeutic space for young people to explore and process the stress and anxiety that often come with these life transitions.  And they give the kids a chance to work on these issues without missing any school, which for many is a big issue.

From body image and identity questions to technology overload and social stressors, we provide a safe, nurturing environment where adolescents can find balance and build resilience.  This is a great time for students to continue with some type of structured schedule and not miss any school or activities that they want to focus on in the evenings.

A Typical Day Includes:

  • Group therapy sessions where teens can share and reflect.
  • Individual Sessions supported by our Adolescent Child Psychiatrist and Treatment Coordinators
  • Expressive art groups that allow creative processing of emotions.
  • Skill-building workshops that teach coping strategies and emotional regulation. With a focus on executive functioning, dialectic behavior therapy and exposure therapy.
  • Peer-supported discussions that foster empathy, encouragement, and connection.
