Eating Disorder Treatment

Eating disorders are more prevalent than many people think and suffering in silence is debilitating for many adults, despite significant advances in eating disorder treatment. If you or someone you love is dealing with an eating disorder, there is help available through eating disorder treatment centers for inpatient and outpatient. An eating disorder is characterized by unhealthy eating patterns that interfere with a person’s ability to live life to the fullest.

What makes SunCloud Health unique?
Unlike all other eating disorder treatment centers, we do not believe that daily consumption of ultra-processed foods is necessary for all forms of recovery. This is just one example of how our individualized treatment model is different from other traditional eating disorder programs that prescribe one generic approach for everyone regardless of their unique disease set.

From binge eating to anorexia, bulimia to disordered eating, SunCloud Health can help. We understand that taking the first step and reaching out is often the hardest. We treat our clients with care, respect, compassion, and understanding.

What Types of Eating Disorders are There? What are Treatment Options?

Eating disorder treatment aims to help people learn how to navigate their eating disorder in a healthy way and find freedom from the disorder. In order for an eating habit to be labeled as a disorder, there must be persistent behavior that interferes with the patient’s ability to live a full life by harming mental, emotional, and physical health.

Types of eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and disordered eating. Anorexia occurs when someone has difficulty eating and spends most days eating well below the appropriate number of calories for his or her body weight. Bulimia occurs when someone eats but then feels guilty or uncomfortable with their food consumption and forces themselves to regurgitate their food. Binge eating can be part of multiple eating disorders and involves binging on food in large quantities. Disordered eating describes an eating disorder that often goes unnoticed where an individual does not eat a consistent number of calories or meals each day and swings to various extremes.

All eating disorders include unhealthy coping mechanisms with food due to deeper issues related to factors such as body dysmorphia and self-esteem. Treatment options depend on the specific eating disorder as well as any co-occurring disorders.

Eating Disorder Treatment Overview – Inpatient vs. Outpatient

When it comes to eating disorder treatment, inpatient eating disorder treatment and outpatient eating disorder treatment are two potential treatment options. All treatments are broken into these two treatment types.
Inpatient eating disorder treatment takes place at SunCloud Health with a client staying overnight for several weeks whereas outpatient eating disorder treatment involves coming to the SunCloud Health facility for specific treatment times during the day. With an inpatient program, you stay overnight at the facility. With an outpatient program, you come and go throughout the week.

We recommend inpatient eating disorder treatment for moderate to severe cases. Inpatient eating disorder treatment creates a perfect environment for treatment and removes outside distractions. Inpatient treatment has a high success rate and can help people make life-lasting changes with full support. Eating disorders can be difficult to beat in other settings. Inpatient care allows people to step back from daily responsibilities and focus solely on their health.

Outpatient eating disorder treatment is a better solution for individuals who need a more affordable solution or who would like to maintain their work, school, or home life throughout treatment. We speak with all prospective patients before making a treatment decision to see what would work best for each individual.

Getting Help: Eating Disorder Treatment and Where to Start

When it comes to eating disorders, it’s hard to make progress if the condition has persisted into adulthood. Most people who are diagnosed with an eating disorder in their youth will either outgrow it by the time they reach adulthood or maintain it. Other people may develop an eating disorder as an adult. It is typically more difficult to overcome an eating disorder as a result. In addition to life stressors, there are financial and health stressors that are greater in adulthood as well.

The best place to start when it comes to eating disorder treatment is to contact a facility with credited, licensed, and compassionate professionals. Choose a facility where the goal is to use a combination of treatments to heal the root cause of the eating disorder and provide optimal support. SunCloud Health is committed to treating eating disorders with a multifaceted approach. From psychological health that focuses on self-esteem, interpersonal conflicts, and body image to physical health ailments due to severe dieting, purges, and extreme weight loss, we can help.

Eating Disorder Treatment Costs and Insurance

How much does eating disorder treatment cost? This is often a primary concern for new patients. Eating disorder treatment can be expensive but the result of not treating the disorder is often more expensive. The lifelong cost of health problems resulting from eating disorders including hospitalization is high for people with eating disorders throughout their lifetime.

SunCloud Health accepts most health insurance providers as part of our programs. Not every carrier will be accepted and not every policy will include treatment for eating disorders, however, many do and we do work with patients to create feasible payment arrangements. When health insurance providers do have matching policies, the cost can be quite affordable. We recommend speaking directly with one of our mental health facilitators to see if your health insurance would be accepted for treatment as well as how much of your treatment would be covered.
