Michelle Shields, MA, LPC, CADC, CDBT, CCTP

As an experienced Licensed Professional Counselor, Michelle incorporates reflection, humor, and mindfulness into her sessions, empowering clients through self-discovery and self-awareness. Michelle holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Governor’s State University and uses a variety of evidence-based approaches to help clients, such as Psychodynamic Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), depending on their individual needs.

Michelle is certified as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor, Dialectical Behavior Therapist, and a Clinical Trauma Professional. In addition, she has continued training in interpersonal trauma treatment including domestic violence, sexual assault, and partner abuse intervention.

Throughout her career, Michelle has worked with individuals and families of varying backgrounds. She has served both self-referred and court-mandated clients of all ages and ethnicities regardless of their socioeconomic status or sexual identity.

Her clinical experience at all levels of care includes working with individuals who battle: mood and anxiety disorders, substance abuse, anger issues, eating disorders, self-injurious behavior, and trauma. In her work in an outpatient setting she provided individual assessments, therapy, and court mandated counseling, such as anger management and PAIP groups. In a residential setting Michelle has worked with adolescent and adult women with co-occurring disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse, personality disorders, and trauma through individual, family, and group therapy.

Michelle provides a warm, nonjudgmental environment for all of her clients, allowing them to feel understood and safe while exploring issues that may be preventing them from living the lives they truly want.
